Programme to be expanded nationwide next year, says Fama
Pahang: The New Breed Marketing Entrepreneur (NBME) programme, a collaboration between the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) and the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education, will be expanded nationwide next year.Fama deputy director-general (development) Mansor Omar said the programme, aimed at nurturing entrepreneurial interest among students, was introduced on July 21 at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Polytechnic (Polisas) here as a pilot project that saw participation of 400 students.

He said via NBME, students worked with FAMA entrepreneurs on a variety of products and to market them either physically or under Agrobazaar online.

"This effort produces a win-win situation as some Fama entrepreneurs are not Internet-savvy, while students are well-versed in using technology and having a wide range of social media mediums.

"This also provides additional income to students as profit distribution is dependent on their agreement with Fama entrepreneurs, but usually between 15 and 20 per cent," he told a news conference after launching NBME at Polisas here today.

Mansor also said that within the four-month period, the sales value recorded by Polisas students participating in the programme was at RM64,131.52, above the initial target of RM50,000.

"NBME also teaches the students not to rely on the conventional employment after graduation, instead to wisely seek opportunities to become successful entrepreneurs," he said.– Bernama
