Kota Kinabalu: A 28-year-old security guard was brought to court to face a charge of committing sexual offence against an 11-year-old girl.Abu Hurairah Eddie pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad to charge against him on Friday, but sentencing was deferred to Aug 16 as he wished to engage a lawyer.

Pending the date, the court ordered Abu remanded further.

He is accused of kissing the minor's left cheek at 6.30am on July 13 this year inside a toilet of a government department's security hut in Putatan.

The offence under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 provides for a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction.

The facts of the case which was read to Abu stated that the girl was on her way to school and passed by the security hut. A security guard there later identified as Abu called her and asked her father's name.

The minor who did not suspect anything, had approached Abu who was in front of a toilet at the time.

Abu suddenly pulled the girl's right hand and dragged her into the toilet where he kissed the girl who tried to avoid Abu's act and shouted for help but no one was there.

Abu asked the girl to remain silent and told her that he would pay her.

The girl managed to escape and returned home where she revealed the incident to her mother.

Following a police report lodged by the girl, Abu was arrested.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Rustam Sanip appeared for the prosecution while Abu was not represented. - Cynthia D Baga
