MAB, PCEB ink strategic partnership to enhance MICE industry

GEORGE TOWN: Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) Thursday inked a strategic partnership agreement with the Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) in an effort to enhance Malaysia's share of the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry.MAB Head of Sales, Yeoh Hock Thye, said the group was delighted with this partnership as both PCEB and its industry partners would benefit from MAB's global network and connectivity.He said currently, MAB flies 45 times weekly into Penang and is able to carry about 7,200 visitors per week.

"Through this strategic partnership, we will drive the traffic from our global network to Malaysia, especially into Penang and putting forward our MICE offering," he said in his opening speech at the Strategic Partnership agreement signing ceremony here, Thursday.He said guests who chose Malaysia and Penang for business tourism would have the opportunity to benefit from the internationally accredited conference facilities within the beautiful and tranquil setting of Penang.At the ceremony, Yeoh signed on behalf of MAB while PCEB was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Ashwin Gunasekeran. The event was witnessed by Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng.Lim said business events were a rising economic sector in Penang, contributing RM808 million to the economy in 2016.

"Penang hosted 1,251 events in 2016 and for the first three quarters of last year, the state played host to 1,731 events with an estimated economic impact of RM900 million," he added.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
