Stop revamp Yayasan talk and clear the air, Shafie told
Kota Kinabalu: Umno Secretary Zone 6 Datuk Ainal Fattah said Parti Warisan Sabah President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal should stop confusing Sabahans with talk about restructuring Yayasan Sabah when he has yet to confirm or deny that he was involved in a backdoor listing of the foundation in 1994."Sabahans are fully aware of where he has come from since 30 years ago," he said in a statement, and again suggested that he took advantage of the power of his uncle (now Tun) Sakaran Dandai to take over Yayasan Sabah and its subsidiaries 23 years ago.

"He took advantage...to enable him (Shafie) as Chairman of the North Borneo Timber to take over Yayasan Sabah and its subsidiaries Rakyat Berjaya, ICSB and SSSB," he said.

The Semporna-born lawyer had alleged that Shafie, who was then chairman of North Borneo Timber Berhad (NBT) and Sabah Umno Youth Chief, attempted to take over the shares and equities of Innoprise Corporation Sdn Bhd (ICSB), a subsidiary of Sabah Foundation, to be placed under the public listed company.

He also alleged that as Chairman of NBT, Shafie was involved in masterminding the purchase of shares of public listed company, Sitt Tatt Berhad.

The ICBS-NBT controversy started when NBT chaired by Shafie was said to have attempted to gain control over Sabah Softwoods Sdn Bhd (SSSB) and Rakyat Berjaya Sdn Bhd (RBSB) involving the selling of 60 per cent equities of ICSB.

Ainal had said the proposed control over SSSB and RBSB would mean giving away 150,000 acres of Sabah Foundation lands to certain individuals while the taking over of RBSB would mean surrendering 247,000 acres of its timber concession to the NBT.

He had further alleged that NBT had offered below market price for the Sabah Foundation subsidiaries and the purported deal not only breached the Security Commission laws but also violated Section 17 of the Sabah Foundation Enactment.

However, the deal, was prevented by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, who was then a member of the Sabah Foundation's board of trustees.

"If Shafie had succeeded the whole objective of Yayasan Sabah to support the education of Sabahans and many charitable commitments would have vanished. We thank Musa for still having the foundation to serve our interest and future," he said.

Ainal also criticized Shafie for betraying the trust of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who had elevated him in his ministerial and political career.

"It remains fresh in people's minds especially those in Semporna how he once sang the BN and Umno song and even strongly urged the people to support the party and government.

Now he has changed overnight," he said, insisting that it would be hard for the Parti Warisan leader to convince the very people he once told to rally behind the government, the BN and Umno.
