Kuching: The remains of two Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students, who died in a road accident at Kota Samarahan early Friday, were sent to their hometown in Sandakan, Sabah, Saturday morning. The remains of Myrna Ejul, 23, and Siti Norzaineh Zainudin, 25, were claimed by family members from the Sarawak General Hospital morgue here at 10am.

A medical officer from UiTM accompanied the two bodies on the flight to Sandakan, while Muara Tuang Assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang was also present at the morgue to meet the family members.

Idris also presented a personal donation to the families of Myrna and Siti Norzaineh, as well as the mother of another student – Valerie Liynthia Handrew, 23 - who was seriously injured.

In the 4am accident, the car in which the three students were travelling was said to have hit the rear of a lorry at a traffic light in front of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) on Jalan Express Way, Kota Samarahan.

Myrna and Siti Norzaineh, both undergraduates of the International Business degree, died at the scene.

The driver, Valerie, from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, underwent surgery Friday night, and is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.

In the meantime, Myrna's brother Robert Ejul, 36, who arrived from Sandakan Friday night, thanked UiTM for making arrangements for the remains of his sister to be brought back to Sandakan.
