Unity key to tackling Sabah’s poverty, Ewon urges leaders
PUTATAN: Special Committee for Federal Government Project Intervention, Monitoring, and Coordination chairman Datuk Ewon Benedick (pic)  has pledged to prioritise reducing Sabah’s poverty rate and expediting over 400 delayed Federal projects in the State.

Ewon, also Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister, said Sabah remains one of Malaysia's poorest states, with many Federal projects stalling since the 11th Malaysia Plan, citing issues like land disputes and rising costs as key challenges.

Ewon emphasised the need for unity among Sabah leaders, regardless of political affiliations, to address poverty and ensure stalled development projects are implemented effectively.

He has initiated monthly meetings as chairman of a federal project monitoring committee to accelerate progress, taking his responsibilities seriously as a minister from Sabah.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
Ewon also called for a united focus on Sabah’s development, stating that political disputes should take a backseat to improving the people’s welfare and achieving stability at the State and federal levels.
