Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court for molesting his 50-year-old mother two months ago.
The 18-year-old pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin, Thursday, for committing the offence in mid-August 2024 between midnight and 5am inside a house in Sepanggar.
The offence falls under Section 354 of the Penal Code which provides for jail term of up to 10 years or fine or whipping, or with any two of the punishments, upon conviction.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Alia Nuurlysa Adnan applied for pre-trial case management (PTCM) and offered RM6,000 bail to the accused.
Counsel Hannan Razaini, representing the accused, requested for minimum bail sum as the accused has no source of income and his family is struggling financially.
The court set Nov 27 for PTCM and released the accused on RM3,000 bail with one surety.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old Pakistani was fined RM2, 500 or a month’s jail by Magistrate’s Court for moving stolen properties.
Cloth seller Bakhti Rawan pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to moving various stolen prepaid handphone coupons worth RM3,500 owned by Rooh Ul Amin on Sept 30, this year at 5pm at Inanam Grocery Store.
The offence falls under Section 414 of the Panel Code which carries for up to seven years of jail or fine or both, upon conviction.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Alia Nuurlysa Adnan said the coupons and cash were reported missing from the grocery store on Sept 22.
The complainant identified the items based on the serial numbers from the receipts.
Bakhti, who was unrepresented, requested for a lighter punishment while Inspector Alia applied for deterrent sentence.
The prosecution also applied for the stolen properties to be returned to the rightful owner, which the court granted.
