Kota Kinabalu junior archers reign supreme again

Kota Kinabalu: Kota Kinabalu junior archers ruled supreme for the third consecutive year with 24 golds, 12 silvers and 11 bronzes in the recent Sabah School Sports Council (MSSS) meets held at the Industrial Training Institute in Sepanggar.

Up and coming Aedan Chaw Zheng Zhe was the toast of the team by winning eight gold medals in the boys’ Under-15 category.

Sukma-bound Quik Chern Xin also excelled with five gold medals in the boys’ Under-18 category, while the other golds contributed by Mohd Izz Syahmi Mohd Amsyari, Dylia Batrisyia Quik Chern Ee, Ewyn Rich Chong Qi Yan, Xavier Wong Yung Han, Ethan Lim Zi Hong, Celeste Chiew En Yi, Siti Saudah Rithzal and Mohd As Siddiq Sharudi. 

The silvers and bronzes came from Muhammad Zidane Farhas Roslee, Faith Fedora Shiu Xiao Min, Ava Zhao Yu Su, Megan Lim Kah, Intan Nur Adilah Hamjah, Scarlett Chin Xin Er, Xandria Wong Yung Xin, Eowyn Rich Chong LI Qi, Chow Yi Min, Mohammad Rizqee Aisykurnia Ali, Deborah Unang Weslley, Nicole Liew Shing Thong and Muhammad Ayman Zaid  Azmi.

The team comprising 18 boys and 15 girls was led by SM All Saints’ teacher Bala Chandran assisted by Kota Kinabalu District Archery Association’s (KKDAA) secretary Shiu Vay Leung.

KKDAA president Datuk Ram Singh was delighted with their achievement and praised Bala, Shiu and coaches Kenneth Chow, Sylvester Fernandez, Elaine Van, as well as the teachers and parents for their commitment and hard work.

He called on them to stay united as a team and focused towards the development of archery to produce more medal winners for the State in the future.

Meanwhile, KKDAA represented by Muhd Khaifaritz  Muhd Khair, Davian Jayden Chin, Varshal Shaji Sugathan and Alson Yeap Zheng Man won a gold medal in the boys’ Under-15 recurve team event in the Borneo Zone Archery tournament held at the same venue in Sepanggar soon after the MSSS meet.
