Kota Kinabalu: The implementation of National Training Week (NTW) aligns with State Government’s commitment to strengthen and enhance training centres to produce more semi-skilled, skilled, and knowledgeable workers to meet investors’ needs in the state, said Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Noor.
He said to achieve this goal, collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources (Kesuma) and HRD Corp can be carried out in several ways to foster a culture of lifelong learning.

“These include introducing more industry-relevant training courses and developing customised programmes for semi-skilled workers, incorporating practical on-the-job training.
“We can also expand access to training through online learning platforms. This will allow more people, especially those living in rural areas, to access quality training opportunities without having to leave their communities.
“Therefore, to realise all these initiatives, close cooperation with Kesuma and HRD Corp is crucial. I hope NTW can be held annually, and skill training programmes will continue to be strengthened,” he said during the launch of the state-level NTW at the Sabah State Prison Department Complex on Friday.
His speech was delivered by the Minister Of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Arif.

Meanwhile, Hajiji said with the support of Kesuma, HRD Corp, and other relevant parties, a broader awareness campaign to encourage more people to participate in training programmes can be effectively implemented.
“The State Government is committed to fostering a culture of lifelong learning in line with the objectives of NTW. I am very proud of this initiative because it provides every segment of society with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, particularly through collaboration with the State Prison Department,” he said.

Regarding the event, he said a total of 450 free programmes are being offered in Sabah in conjunction with NTW 2024. These include training sessions, workshops, and seminars specifically aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of locals.
“Therefore, NTW 2024 is the best platform to introduce all these initiatives to the people of the state. With the introduction of comprehensive and inclusive training programmes offered at NTW, we can produce a generation of workers who are not only skilled but also globally competitive.
“Let us all support NTW 2024 and make the culture of lifelong learning the cornerstone of our journey toward success,” he said.
