RM100 million for youth and sports development
Hajiji said positive economic growth through youth development plays an important role in economic progress in this region.
Kota Kinabalu: The State Government has allocated RM100.17 million for management expenses, youth development and sports development in Sabah this year.

Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor said of this RM16.89 million was to implement various leadership, skills and entrepreneurship programmes and activities aimed at empowering youth to achieve socioeconomic well-being in line with the Sabah Youth Policy (DBS).

The State Government is trying to implement various youth programes involving the development of leadership and skills in empowering the youth as done by the state of Sarawak and other neighboring countries.

Hajiji said this at a Ship Program for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP) International Conference (SICO) Borneo 2024 themed “Shaping The Future: Trends And Insights For Tomorrow”, here, Sunday .

State Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Ellron Angin delivered Hajiji’s speech.

Hajiji said positive economic growth through youth development plays an important role in economic progress in this region.

He added that the youths’ aspirations and views are important for the government to formulate future directions.

“What is planned today, will be inherited by the youths of the next generation because they are the heirs who will bear the responsibility of leading the country in the future.

“Youths are the most active group in society and their number is almost half of the total population of our country.

“Since independence, the country’s youths have also played a role and contributed to the process of building and developing the country. This contribution covers various aspects including political, economic, social, cultural and educational,” he said.

Hajiji said youths also need to be more knowledgeable and educated so that they can compete with regional and global peers.

Therefore, he said, education should be in line with a strong appreciation of religious teachings, given that today’s world is more geared towards moral depravity.

He believes that today’s youth have great potential and natural talent. In the era of globalization, he said they are needed to help develop the country’s economy.

“Efficient, competent and creative youths in terms of management and enterprise are very helpful in diversifying the country’s economic resources.

“If the youths want to excel, they must be able to be independent without having to depend on others. The formation of the country in the future depends on the youth themselves to shape and color it,” Hajiji said.

Hajiji said the SICO Borneo 2024 programme is the State Government’s recognition of the efforts and success of all youths as a pillar of the state and national development, in addition to providing opportunities for youths from the Borneo Islands to gain exposure, knowledge, partnership and dialogue with leaders in the State.

The three-day SICO Borneo International Conference 2024 was attended by approximately 300 participants from Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei and Indonesia.

It is the first conference organized by the Sabah Ministry of Youth and Sports together with strategic partners, KABESA Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan, with the support of SSEAYP International Malaysia (KABESA), specifically for youths in Borneo.

SICO Borneo has been adapted from SICO 2023 and serves as a platform for international and local participants to exchange ideas and experiences and discuss current issues related to youth development and the opportunities available to them.
