Action on mixing non-Halal and Halal frozen food

SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) raided a supermarket here on Friday after it was said to store pork and halal products in the same cold room.
The Sandakan Sabah Veterinary Services Department (DVS) was also involved in the 10.50am raid following a tip-off.

He said a total of 1,016kg of frozen products consisting of chicken nuggets, cheese, butter, fruits and pork, estimated to be worth RM10,686.80, were seized.
“This case will be further investigated under Order 3, Trade Description (Definition of Halal) Order 2011.
“If convicted, the company can be fined not more than RM5 million and not more than RM10 million for the second or subsequent offence.
“For individuals, the penalty is a fine not exceeding RM1 million or imprisonment not exceeding three years, or both, while a fine not exceeding RM5 million or imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years, or both, can be imposed for the second or subsequent offences,” he said in a statement.

Azdy said KPDN Sandakan would continue to carry out inspections and monitoring of premises that sell frozen products to ensure compliance by traders under the Trade Description (Definition of Halal) Order 2011.
