EPOMS, UMS, PKK collab to enhance Sabahan O&G talent
Kota Kinabalu: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between a private company, E&P O&M Services Sdn Bhd (EPOMS) with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic (PKK) in the opening of 11th Sabah Oil, Gas and Energy Conference and Exhibition (SOGCE) 2024 here on Thursday.

This company inked its collaboration with UMS and PKK through signing of MoU and LOI which marked the shared vision of all parties to enhance local talent development in Sabah by combining the industry expertise from EPOMS with resources from UMS and PKK. This will further encourage the involvement of local talents from various courses in the oil and gas industry.

In addition, the signing of the MoU and LOI aimed to create cooperation between the three parties to enhance human capital development of Sabah’s youths who acquire skills and qualification at the two higher learning institutions, and to prepare them to be employed in the oil and gas industry.

In the 11th SOGCE 2024) which was officiated by the State Minister of Finance Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun had witnessed the signing of the MoU and LOI whereby EPOMS was represented by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Zulkarnain Ismail and its Chief People Officer Muhammad Faizal bin Saidin.

While UMS was represented by its Vice Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Kasim Mansor and its registrar Luqman Ridha Anwar while PKK was represented by the Academic Deputy Director, Abdul Razak Mohd Daim and its head of Corporate Industry Services and Employability Centre (CISEC) Ts. Dr. Jason William Vitales.

Zulkarnain said the company’s collaboration with UMS and PKK will have a positive impact and further assist the state government in creating job opportunities in the oil and gas industry for people of Sabah.

At the same time, he said, the noble effort was able to produce more experts from among the local youths, as well as to contribute to the economic development of the region.

“Collaboration with UMS and PKK is also important as a preparation to create a pool of skilled workforce that could meet occupation demand in the oil and gas industry from among the locals’ graduates.

“Those qualified locals would be engaged to work with the company that will implement a Petronas project for a period of three years.

“Our company which has been operating for a long time in this industry, is doing this (as mentioned in the MoU for enhancement of Sabah’s workforce in oil and gas industry) as we want to contribute back to Sabah through this noble cause,” he said.

Through strategic partnership and collective efforts by EPOMS, Zulkarnain said this collaborative initiative will make a profound impact in nurturing local talent with the aim in sustaining employment and increase leadership roles within the industry.  He said it will further create meaningful opportunities, empower individuals and contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable society.
