Two Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living’s detainees rearrested
Both suspects were re-arrested in less than three hours.
SEMPORNA: Two detainees of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) who escaped from the Semporna KPDN office, were re-arrested in two separate locations.

District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said Semporna Police Headquarters received a phone call at 1.07pm on Thursday informing that two KPDN detainees had escaped.

Mohd Farhan said police immediately took preliminary measures by launching Op Tutup and Op Kesan.

“Acting on public information one of the detainees was in the bushes near Dewan Masyarakat Semporna. Police went to inspect the areas.

“Police went to there and found the first suspect, a 45-year-old foreigner who was sleeping while his right hand is still handcuffed,” he said on Friday.

According to Mohd Farhan, while being detained the suspect acted aggressively and attempted to flee.

He said inspections of nearby areas also found a pair of police lock-up purple-colour pants.

“On the same day, about 4pm, acting on public tip-off, a police team went to an unnumbered house in Kampung Mesra Sri Jaya.

“They found the second suspect, a local man in his 30s and a police lock-up purple pants,” he said.

Mohd Farhan said, urine tests conducted on both suspects found that the local man tested positive for Methamphetamine.

He said both suspects were detained and investigated under Section 223/224 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Mohd Farhan thanked the public for their cooperation that led to the success of re-arresting both suspects in less than three hours.

He added that those who have any information on the case may contact Insp Adham Ramli at 011-10145004 or 089-782020.
