KUNAK: The Pertubuhan Pembangunan Minda Insan (PPMI) has formed a special committee to help the Government deal with issues involving the Pala’u or Bajau Laut, following demolition of their illegal settlements erected in gazetted Park and security areas.

PPMI Sabah Secretary General Lajuliadi Lajahidi said the special committee or “task force” can be implemented through three phases i.e. short term (3-6 months), medium term (6-12 months) and long term (13-60 months) or the equivalent period from 2024 to 2030.

“It includes field research, data collection (data collection), solution mapping, documentation, placement, basic education intervention, access to health facilities/assistance, advanced education and skills, career economics and more importantly related to the environment and culture,” he said.

Lajuliadi said PPMI is assisted by the Himpunan Lepasan Institusi Pendidikan Malaysia (Haluan), Pusat Pembangunan Minda Insan.

He claimed the current issues involving Pala’u require good cooperation from NGOs and the Government, in order to fend off extreme political sentiments caused by certain parties.

“We held a meeting with the local district authorities in Lahad Datu to present the committee’s recommendations,” he said.
