Kota Kinabalu: Sabah FC will be looking for a positive outing in the FA Cup’s first leg quarter-final tie against Terengganu FC at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Gong Badak, Terengganu tonight (Friday).

Head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee said it is important for the team to put in a good performance and at the same time try to get a good result in the away tie before the two teams meet again in the return leg on July 6.

“We are fully focused on the match tomorrow. Terengganu FC are a good team and have achieved a pretty good record recently especially playing at home.

“They are a much improved side this season with the signing of some new players, especially local players such as Safawi Rashid, Akhyar Rashid and Akram Mahinan.

“They are very experienced and we have to be wary of their threats and cannot afford to take the whole team lightly.

“Although the result of tomorrow’s match will not determine which team will progress to the next stage, it is very important for us to produce our best on the pitch.

“To come back with a good result will definitely lift the team’s spirit ahead of the second leg to be played here at Likas Stadium,” he said on Thursday.

According to him, all the preparation has been done accordingly, but he has yet to decide who will make the start.

“We have prepared as well as we could for the match. However, we have yet to decide which players will start against Terengganu FC tomorrow.

“Some key players in the team like Telmo Castanheira and Gabriel Peres are still nursing injuries, so we will have to wait until tomorrow to check on their fitness before making the final decision on the starting line-up.”

Sabah FC had a good record against the home side at the same venue last season by beating them 4-0.
