Police target sex trade on social media platforms
Bukit Aman sexual, women and child investigation division principal assistant director Siti Kamsiah Hassan said police are working with the AGC to strengthen laws dealing with cyberspace activities.
PETALING JAYA: Police are ramping up efforts to combat the rise of the “dark side” of social media, and are seeking to clamp down on the sale of sex services and explicit content online.

Bukit Aman sexual, women and child investigation division principal assistant director Siti Kamsiah Hassan said police are working with the Attorney-General’s Chambers to strengthen laws dealing with cyberspace activities.

This initiative also involves the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, which, she said, was collaborating with social media administrators to remove inappropriate content from their platforms.

“Some agencies or entities have created platforms allowing individuals to report such content directly. This collaboration includes reporting, removing and taking down explicit content,” she told FMT.

Siti Kamsiah said police also provide support to victims whose intimate photos have been leaked and shared online, including through psychological and emotional support via counselling sessions.

“Investigations are conducted discreetly. In cases involving sexual exploitation, we maintain strict confidentiality and do not expose the victims’ identities.”

How dark does it get?

FMT found that there were more than 50 accounts on X involved in the supply of sex services and explicit content.

One such account belonged to “Lea”, 23, who began providing sex services in October last year, charging RM400 for a two-hour session, and RM1,000 for an overnight stay.

The university student from Shah Alam also sells nude images and sex videos of herself for RM50, offering “lifetime access” to subscribers.

She told FMT that her “clients” are both young and old, and some are even married, adding that she has had to engage in the business out of financial necessity.

Another X user, @real*******bat, promotes a collection of potentially leaked or stolen nude images and sex videos, directing subscribers to a Telegram account managed by “Pak Aji”.

Subscribers are instructed to make payments to an “Abdul Ghani” via DuitNow or Touch ‘n Go eWallet, through a provided phone number.

FMT’s investigation found that these channels host thousands of explicit photos and videos and have over a thousand subscribers.

In February this year, the nation was stunned after a man dubbed “Hot Daddy” was charged for allegedly marketing videos of himself engaging in sexual activities with multiple women on social media.

Earlier this week, a six-month pregnant woman was sentenced to two months in jail by the Bandar Baru Bangi sessions court for soliciting clients for prostitution via Telegram under the pseudonym “Miza Ozawa”.
