Among present were Tan Sri Ajit Singh, a former diplomat whom Arul first met during his posting in Canberra, Australia in 1964 and ex-Captain Loo Choon Chew from MACVA (Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association), who regarded Arul as one-of-a-kind for his outstanding service especially during the communist era.
The soft-spoken Arul recounted his service in the Malaysian Armed Forces since 1952.
