Kota Kinabalu: Fifteen-year-old Siti Nursuhadah Samirin, who is suffering from Right Distal Femur Osteosarcoma, had her wish fulfilled - thanks to the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia (CWS).

Nursuhadah, accompanied by her mother Mardina Jauli and her sister, enjoyed a luxurious two-night stay in a VVIP room at Hyatt Regency in Kota Kinabalu. The special experience included island hopping and shopping at malls.

Mardina said her daughter was first diagnosed with the disease in March 2023, and the cancer had already spread to her lungs. Nursuhadah is the youngest of Mardinah’s five children.

The family also lost their father, Mardina’s husband, in 2021 due to a pneumonia-related illness.

Despite her ailment, Nursuhadah had a wonderful time experiencing a boat ride, enjoying the sights and splashes of seawater during an island-hopping adventure operated by Sea Quest Tours and Travel.

She was also given personal attention by the general manager of Hyatt Regency, Thor Gervasi, during her VVIP stay.

She was presented with an iPad by Dr Siva Rao and friends who had pooled funds for it.

CWS Malaysia President TH Teoh said fulfilling Nursuhadah’s wish was part of the Society’s mission to bring smiles to ailing children across the country.

“CWS has been constantly fulfilling wishes across Malaysia since it was established in 2007. We race against time to bring a smile back to children faced with the darkest hours of their lives.”

Funds for the wishes were raised through public donations and events like the annual “Jom Durian” charity event in Kuala Lumpur.

Mardina expressed her heartfelt gratitude to doctors from Likas Women’s Hospital and Keningau Hospital who collaborated with CWS, Malaysia.

She also thanked Sabah CWS board members, Datuk Susan Chang, Anita Chung and Dr. Siva, for organising the three-day, two-night holiday in Kota Kinabalu.

“I wish to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Thor Gervasi, General Manager of Hyatt Regency, and all the staff involved in making this holiday programme a success.

“Although her first wish was to visit West Malaysia, I worried she couldn’t handle the flight, so I suggested we spend time in KK instead.

“It was something she had been longing to do — spending quality time with us, her family, in Kota Kinabalu. That was good enough,” said Mardina.
