1,000 take part In Quran recital and prayer

Kota Kinabalu: Some 1,000 Muslim participants took part in the 2024 Khatam Al-Quran and Selawat (Al-Quran recital and prayer) organised by the Kota Kinabalu United Sabah Islamic Association (Usia), on Sunday.
Its Chairwoman Nirma Habibi said the event, started in 2021, had been carried out three times in a row and this year it receives support from Muslim Sabahans.

“Participation in the annual event is growing each year organised by Women Usia were the first programme saw participation from some 100 Muslims and grew to 200 in the following year.
“But for this year, participation is beyond expectation as we had initially planned to include 700 Muslims for the recital but more than 1,000 showed up,” she said at the programme on Sunday officiated by the Chief Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Datuk Juliah Salag.
Also present was Usia President Datuk Sapawi Ahmad.
Nirma said those participants were not only from Kota Kinabalu but also Kota Maurudu and Beaufort.

“We hope that more districts in Sabah will take part in future programmes.
“The participants comprised students from tahfiz schools and orphans which have been our focus. As of today, the 1,000 participants include those from areas near Kota Kinabalu such as Putatan and Tanjung Aru, Kota Marudu and Beaufort.”
