Strong gusts uproot trees in Sipitang
Rimat’s house almost flattened by the fallen tree.
SIPITANG: Several trees were uprooted by strong gusts Friday afternoon, resulting in one house almost collapsing and a blocked road.

Sipitang Fire and Rescue Station Chief Calvin Joe Fefaery said they received an emergency call from Kg Kasili at 8.42am about a fallen tree blocking a road.

Several firefighters were deployed to the scene on two fire engines and an EMRS vehicle.

Calvin Joe said they received several other calls later the same day from the same village that a resident’s house was hit by a fallen tree. He advised residents not to plant any trees near their homes to avoid such calamities.

According to former Sindumin community development leader (UPPM) Sani Miasin, the affected house belongs to former Kg Kasili chief Rimat Runa.

Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel went to scene in the evening to cut and remove the fallen tree.

“The wind was very strong and I was shocked when I heard something heavy fell on my roof. I just made sure my family was safe and prayed for the best,” Rimat said.

After the winds subsided, Rimat discovered the tree trunk which once stood beside his house on top of his roof.
