KENINGAU: Keningau Hospital collected 4,429 pints of blood from 209 blood donation campaigns for needy patients last year, said hospital Director Dr Ridwan Hashim.

He said the campaigns were carried out in collaboration between the hospital’s Blood Bank and government agencies, educational institutions, uniformed bodies, the private sector and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Keningau, Sook, Nabawan and Kalabakan.

“Blood donation activities and campaigns are still a clear and continuous practice and support of people from all walks of life,” he said at the Blood Donation Appreciation ceremony in conjunction with Keningau Hospital level World Blood Donor Day here.

He said this event is a manifestation of appreciation and recognition of the services of organisers and blood donors for their contribution, support and dedication as well as commitment in carrying out their social responsibility to the community.

Dr Ridwan said World Blood Donor Day, celebrated on June 14 every year, becomes history for organisers and blood donors who carry out social responsibility to society.

“This year with the theme “Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of World Blood Donor Day: Thank you, Blood Donors,” is to be celebrated, namely donors and blood donation organisers for their service and contribution in saving patients’ lives,” he said.

He also thanked Assistant Minister of Public Works cum Bingkor Assemblyman, Datuk Robert Tawik for donating RM20,000 to buy beds for Keningau Hospital.
