Universiti Malaya wins national varsity Chinese debating championship again

Kuala Lumpur: Universiti Malaya again emerged the 19th National Varsity Chinese Debating Championship, the oldest and most prestigious Chinese-language debate competition.

Since its debut in 1988, Universiti Malaya has successfully clinched the championship 12 times and maintained a consecutive winning record four times for the years 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2024.

This year's championship, held at HGH Convention Centre, Sentul, brought together 23 teams from across the country, engaging in 36 debates encompassing diverse proposals on political, economic, educational, and social issues, spanning national and international scopes.

After overcoming teams from UCSI University, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Xiamen University Malaysia, Multimedia University (Melaka Campus), Universiti Malaya faced Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in the final round for a spirited debate dubbed ”the most thrilling final in recent years" by the judges.

The National Varsity Chinese Debating Championship has long been committed to leading discussions on national and international current affairs, and cultivating university students with academic, critical thinking, analytical, and debating abilities.
