Hands off 3R issues, students told

Kota Kinabalu: Students of public and private higher education institutes are advised to avoid playing the 3R issue (race, religion and royalty).
Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Ts Mustapha Sakmud, said as Malaysians, especially in Sabah, it is important to maintain the racial and religious harmony.

“The current situation is quite irritating when the 3R issues are becoming mainstream and we in Sabah do not want this issue to spread to the State.
As the children of Sabah, it is an important role for us to set an example on how to live in harmony.
“Therefore, I ask the Sabah students who are in universities across the country to be ambassadors of harmony.
“Do not ever get involved with the 3R issue because it is not good for the future of the country and for those who will become national leaders at some point,” he said after the City University Malaysia Sabah Campus Opening Ceremony and Open Day Carnival, here, last Saturday.

Mustapha also emphasised that the dynamics of education also affect the needs of human resources in accordance with the current development of the industry.
“Accordingly, the Ministry of Higher Education recommends City University Malaysia and other educational institutions to pioneer the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) which is very much needed at this time.

“Foreign investment that drives the growth of the country’s economy is in dire need of skilled personnel in the field of TVET to ensure that their investment reaps results thus making Malaysia a high-income country,” he added.
At the event, Mustapha also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between City University Malaysia Sabah and Gagasan Nuri Sdn Bhd and also presented scholarship donations to 30 selected students to continue their studies at City University Malaysia Sabah.
In the same ceremony, there was also a handover of zakat from City University Malaysia to underprivileged students amounting to RM45,950 and Living Needs Assistance amounting to RM500.
Also present were the Chairman of the Board of Governors of City University Malaysia, Professor Datuk Dr Husaini Omar, Deputy Managing Director of City University Malaysia, Captain Mohd Syamsuri Shaari, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Corporate Services and Sustainability City University Malaysia, Associate Professor Dr Rosnizah Shaari and Head of Campus, City University Malaysia Kota Kinabalu Regional Center, Mohamad Hafez Rashidi Mohd Yusop.
