Man killed, three others injured in Beaufort crash

BEAUFORT: A 23-year-old man was killed when the Proton Saga he was driving overturned at KM 1 of Jalan Beaufort at about 12.40am on Saturday.
Mohd Shafiq Aziri Kahar, 23, of Kg Bakalau, was on his way home together with two others who were serious injured.

District Police Chief DSP Ismail Abdullah confirmed the victim was pronounced dead at 1.40am at Beaufort Hospital.
Ismail said preliminary investigation at the scene found the Proton Saga was heading to Kg Bakalau from Pekan Beaufort when the incident occurred.
“Upon arrival at the location of incident, the victim tried to avoid a dog and lost control, fell into a ditch on the right side of the road,” he said.
However, the two male passengers aged 18 and 28 suffered injuries and received treatment in the yellow zone at Beaufort Hospital.

Ismail said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, the firefighters who received the distress call at 12.4am, rushed with two machines as well as Emergency Medical Rescue Service to the scene.

Head of Fire and Rescue Station Muhammad Hasbullah Nenggok said when they arrived at the scene, they found three men in a Proton Saga which had overturned.
All three victims were removed from the Proton Saga and sent to Hospital by EMRS.
