PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested nine individuals who had attended the #KamiMahuAir rally organised by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students outside the state chief minister’s office yesterday.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Kasim Muda said they were all detained after an inspection on the van they were travelling in found that they did not have any identification documents on them, Sinar Harian reported.

“All of them were taken to the police station for documentation purposes,” he was quoted as saying.

Yesterday, The Vibes reported that more than 80 students had marched about 3km from UMS to Menara Kinabalu to deliver a memorandum to Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor.

According to the online portal, the group refused to move even after Sabah deputy chief minister Shahelmy Yahya offered to receive their memorandum that highlighted the state’s water woes.

Kasim previously said the police had opened an investigation under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 in connection with the rally and will refer the case to the public prosecutor for further action.

Sinar Harian later reported that the rally ended after 17 hours, at 7am today.
