Kota Kinabalu: The State Government will continue to provide various initiatives to help local offshore support vessel (OSV) companies thrive, said Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan.

“The oil and gas industry is one of the primary economic sources in Sabah,” he said when officiating the launch of Beaufort Marine Sdn Bhd, here, Thursday.

“Sabah has great potential for oil and gas exploration with several active oil and gas fields and many more under exploration planning.”

He said the State Government is committed to sustainably developing the oil and gas industry in Sabah.

“This includes increasing investment in infrastructure, technology, and human capital development,” he said.

Nizam said that fewer than 10 local Sabahan companies have been registered and are actively involved in the OSV field at the moment.

“This shows that Beaufort Marine is among the pioneers and key players in this industry in our state.

“The sustainability and courage of the company’s management to continue advancing and moving forward should be emulated by other Bumiputera companies.

“Engaging the technical support services of Belait Shipping Co Sdn Bhd is one of the proactive steps taken by Beaufort Marine.

“With over 25 years of experience in this field, support from Belait Shipping is expected to enhance and further advance the company’s ability to grow its business to a higher level.

“As a result, this can further stimulate the OSV industry in Malaysia, especially in the waters of Sabah and Sarawak.”

Nizam also disclosed that Beaufort Marine has been awarded a two-and-a-half-year contract with Shell Sarawak.

“This is a major achievement for the company and proves the trust of outsiders in the capabilities of local Sabah companies,” he said.

Meanwhile, Beaufort Marine Managing Director Muhammad Rafiuddin Gulistan said the launch ceremony marks the beginning of the company’s journey into the OSV field.

“We are proud to have the largest and most sophisticated Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) in Sabah.

“The presence of this company also proves the ability and capability of local Sabahans to master this challenging industry.”

He added that Beaufort Marine is committed to providing high-quality and efficient OSV services to their customers.

“We also aspire to contribute to the economic development of Sabah by creating job opportunities and increasing the State’s revenue,” he said.
