Malaysia’s hope of creating history by advancing to the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifier was dashed after Kyrgyzstan managed a 1-1 draw away to Oman early Wednesday morning.
The national team had a few hours earlier defeated Chinese Taipei 3-1 in their final group match at the Bukit Jalil Stadium.

The result gave some very slim hope to the fans as the only way for Malaysia to finish above Kyrgyzstan in second place was for Oman to beat Kyrgyzstan by a seven-goal margin.
Despite the optimism of National coach Kim Pan-gon. It was clearly a fairy tale dream and as I had expected , at the end of of the second round Group D matches, Oman emerged as the group champions with 13 points followed by Kyrgyzstan in second place with 11 points and Malaysia in third with 10 points , while Chinese Taipei at the bottom with no points.
