The duo was charged under Section 137(1) of the Financial Services Act 2013 and can be punished under Section 137 (2) of the same Act and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
Kota Kinabalu: A man and a woman from the peninsula were separately charged with accepting deposits amounting to RM29,035 without a licence.

Jagen Paramasevam, 42, and Saraswaty Sandra Raju, 41, claimed trial to the charge against them after they were brought separately before Sessions Court Judges Elsie Primus and Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim.

They were charged with illegally accepting the deposits from a woman who made 66 transactions into the bank account under the name of a company.

The duo was charged under Section 137(1) of the Financial Services Act 2013 and can be punished under Section 137 (2) of the same Act and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

The court released the duo on bail of RM10,000 in two local sureties with several conditions, namely report to the nearest police station twice a month and not to tamper with the prosecution witnesses.

The court set July 3 for pre-trial case management.
