Kota Kinabalu: A forestry officer has been nabbed for allegedly accepting a RM15,000 bribe from a logging company.

The suspect, in his 40s, was arrested when giving his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer here, around 10am, Wednesday.

According to MACC sources, the man was believed to have committed the crime in September 2019.

He had allegedly asked for a RM30,000 payment from the company to lessen the impact of the offence committed on illegal logging.

He was said to have received RM15,000.

Sabah MACC Director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under the MACC Act 2009.

He said the suspect was later released on a RM10,000 bail with one surety and is expected to be charged in court soon.
