No approval for gathering over water: Police
ACP Kasim said the gathering does not have approval or permit from the City Police Headquarters.
Kota Kinabalu: The public, especially Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students, have been advised not to get involved or attend the #KamiMahuAir (We Want Water) gathering this Friday.

City Police Chief ACP Kasim Muda said the gathering does not have approval or permit from the City Police Headquarters.

“We received the application from the organiser and a response letter stating that this application cannot be processed has been prepared,” he said, Wednesday (June 12).

However, police have not been able to contact the organiser, he said.

Nonetheless, the response letter had been sent via mail and WhatsApp, he added.

“This event does not have approval. No permit has been issued by Kota Kinabalu police to the organisers,” he said, urging the public not to participate in the planned demonstration.

Last Saturday (June 8), the organiser of the #KamiMahuAir (We Want Water) gathering was reported as saying that they will proceed with their plans to assemble in front of Menara Kinabalu here on June 14 despite being discouraged to do so by UMS Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor.
