PETALING JAYA: Sharifah Faraha Syed Husin, one of two people suspected of supplying firearms to an Israeli man, did not receive proper medical treatment during her detention at the Kajang women’s prison, her lawyer alleges.

At the Kuala Selangor sessions court today, counsel Isa Basir, representing Sharifah, submitted two applications, for her examination at a clinic outside the prison and to request that the warden not provide false information related to the case.

He claimed that the 41-year-old only received “normal treatment” today after fainting two weeks ago in prison. He said she had also complained of pain in the head and requested an X-ray.

“I also understand that the wardens have given false information and put pressure on my client. This needs to stop,” Bernama reported him as saying.

Isa said his team was also in the process of obtaining Sharifah’s health records from Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor, as she had previously suffered from depression and anxiety.

Judge Ahmad Faizadh Yahya advised that both applications be resolved by the prison’s administration.

The court also fixed July 11 for remention of the case involving Sharifah and her husband Abdul Azim Yasin, 43.

Deputy public prosecutor Fazeedah Faik said in today’s proceedings that the prosecution was still preparing some documents for submission to the defence.

Fazeedah also said she had received a representation from the defence on behalf of Sharifah on June 2, which is being examined for further action.

Lawyer Ethan Tan, representing Azim, was also present at today’s proceedings.

On April 8, Sharifah pleaded not guilty to possessing a CZ 75 P-01 pistol at a house in Kampung Bukit Belimbing, Kuala Selangor, at 8pm on March 29.

She was charged under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 14 years and no less than six strokes of the rotan, upon conviction.

Azim was alleged to have been with Sharifah in a situation that gave rise to the reasonable presumption that he knew his wife had the firearm in question at the same location, date and time.

The charge was made under Section 9 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 which provides for similar penalties, upon conviction.
