LAHAD DATU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) foiled  fish-bombing activities in waters off Pulau Kun Kun, here, Sunday.

MMEA Lahad Datu Zone Director Commander Dr Suzanna Razali Chan said  MMEA spotted two boats conducting fish-bombing activities at 6.16pm and 6.31pm following a tip-off.

“Four Bajau Palauh aged between 20 and 40, believed to be the crew of the two boats, were detained, while two engines, two hoses with a compressor and two bottles containing a substance suspected to be used for fish-bombing activities were seized,” she said.

Suzanna reminded the maritime community against fish-bombing activities as it may bring a negative impact to the ecosystem and endanger the lives of perpetrators and divers.

She said investigations would be conducted under Section 26 of the Fisheries Act 1985.

She also called on the public, especially the maritime community, to channel information to the 24-hour operation centre 089-885727 or MERS999.
