Increase social media knowledge, Gagasan Rakyat chiefs told
Nizam said social media platforms, which evolve with current technology, should be leveraged for networking and as information sources that can benefit the community.
Kota Kinabalu: Gagasan Rakyat Sabah’s Information chiefs are encouraged to master the skills and knowledge of social media technology to enhance the party’s work.

Gagasan Rakyat Information Head, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, said without skills in the digital technology realm, individuals and organisations will fall behind.

He said to improve these skills, the heads of information and information bureaus at the divisional level need to organise programmes on digital technology mastery.

“Reaching out to the public now requires more than face-to-face methods, it needs to be strengthened through increasingly sophisticated virtual systems.

“The relevant Information Bureau needs to periodically implement courses related to social media, applications and networking methods for platforms such as Facebook, Page, Instagram, X and even TikTok.

“They also need to be exposed to content that appeals to today’s diverse target groups. To engage the public, any effective method should be utilised,” he said after the Sabah Gagasan Rakyat Information Bureau meeting, recently.

Also present was Senator AnnaBell Perian.

Nizam, who is Apas Assemblyman, said social media not only facilitates the dissemination of information but also allows leaders to understand issues arising at the grassroots level.

“Through social media, we can control the information delivered and receive feedback from the ground to address concerns.

“This way, we can identify issues in the 74 divisions,” he said.

He noted that because social media greatly influences the public and can shape people’s thinking, every Information Bureau machinery should have the ability to manage any propaganda spread.

Moreover, he said, they should educate social media users to make social media platforms a catalyst for economic progress.

“If used to spread good information and as a platform for business, I believe social media can drive economic progress in the community.

“Therefore, we can no longer lag behind and need to be leaders in this virtual community. We cannot be mere followers.

“We are the ones who should provide appropriate content, shape minds, improve understanding of government organisation and policies, among others,” he added.

Nizam said social media platforms, which evolve with current technology, should be leveraged for networking and as information sources that can benefit the community.
