Shafie’s reminder on the 40pc
The Semporna MP further clarified that the 40 per cent claim only involves Sabah under Article 112C and 112D Schedule 10 (4) of the Federal Constitution.
PENAMPANG: Parti Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal reminded Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that Sabah’s demand for 40 per cent net revenue is different from the RM16 billion allocation given to Sabah.

He said the amount is a portion that needs to be returned through the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“That (RM16 billion) is different, this agreement is different. The 40 per cent is the tax that should be returned, how much tax has been collected in Sabah? 40 per cent of the tax since what year, it will not exceed that. I think that is a common thing for the Federal Government which has two matters, one Federal List and one Concurrent List,” he said after officiating Warisan’s Kaamatan Celebration at Buhavan Square, Sunday.

He was asked to comment on Anwar’s recent speech that the RM16 billion allocation to Sabah exceeded the State Government’s 40 per cent revenue claim.

The Semporna MP further clarified that the 40 per cent claim only involves Sabah under Article 112C and 112D Schedule 10 (4) of the Federal Constitution.

“In Sabah alone, 40 per cent is mentioned, there is no mention of Perlis, no mention of Kelantan, no mention of Sarawak and this is enshrined in MA63.”

“Tun Fuad Stephens signed it, Tun Mustapha signed it, G.S Sundang signed it. That was the agreement in 1963, there was no agreement in 1963 or in this State’s agreement that it should be divided,” he said.

In this regard, he said, what is enshrined in the Constitution should be fulfilled soon as possible.

“It’s not about negotiating, negotiating many times. If possible, tell us how much, if the Federal Government cannot afford it, then how much can they pay,” he said.
