Families, friends remember the quake victims
Representative of Ranau District Police Chief ASP Jailix bin Amidang was among the many who placed flowers at the memorial monument in Kiau Gap View during the commemoration ceremony.
Kundasang: More than 100 people held a memorial service for victims on the 9th anniversary of the 6.0 magnitude earthquake – the worst to strike Ranau in 2015 – last Wednesday.

A moment of silence was observed by those standing before the brass plaque containing the names of the 18 who perished, erected about 2km from the Timpohon Gate.

The Timpohon Gate is the starting point to scale the 4,095m-high mountain, the highest in Malaysia.

A group of Singaporean students and teachers from Tanjong Katong Primary School were killed in rock avalanches during their climb up the mountain following the 7am earthquake.
