Over 100 folks are made homeless in Batu Sapi fire
Some 21 houses razed to the ground.
SANDAKAN: More than 100 residents of Kampung Cenderamata, Batu Sapi, were left homeless when 21 wooden houses were destroyed in a fire on Thursday.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station Chief Severinus Sainkui said the department’s personnel rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 6.05pm.

The fire brigade managed to prevent the fire from spreading to hundreds of nearby wooden houses.

The fire was controlled at 7.17pm and fully extinguished by 11.17pm.

Meanwhile, Batu Sapi MP Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan said that 19  households comprising 111 victims temporarily stayed at the PPR Batu Sapi Hall.

He added that his office would provide financial assistance to the heads of households to help alleviate some of the burden faced by the fire victims.

It is understood that this is the second fire incident in the water village, with the first incident destroying 90 houses in 2023.
