E-hailing driver’s murder: Court sets July 11 for mention

TAWAU: The Magistrate’s Court on Thursday set July 11 for mention of the case involving a woman and her step-brother charged with killing an e-hailing driver who was her’s former husband.
Magistrate Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin set the date for Nurima Juli, 35, and Sadam Kiram, 30, after the prosecution informed the court that the requisition notice to transfer the case to the High Court had yet to be received.

Nurima and Sadam are accused of murdering Nurman Bakaratu, 61, between 7.30pm and 11.30pm on Jan 13, 2023 at an oil palm estate near Jalan Anjur Juara, Batu 5, Jalan Apas, here.
On April 26 this year, the duo were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same Code which carries the death sentence or a jail term of between 30 and 40 years, and with whipping of at least 12 strokes, on conviction.
Sadam was also charged with disposing off a pair of scissors and a wallet belonging to Nurman between 7.30pm and 11.30pm on the same day.
Previously, Nurima was the a star witness of the high profile murder case which allegedly involved Esscom Chief of Staff SAC Datuk Mat Zaki Md Zain together with seven other individuals in the alleged murder of Nurman.

However, the High Court released the eight after Nurima, who appeared as a prosecution witness, testified that she had stabbed her former husband with the scissors.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Suhaimi Suriana appeared for the prosecution while the duo were not represented.
