Provision of jobs to help rid poverty: Phoong

Phoong said in addition to employment opportunities, the State Government, through the relevant ministries, also provides skills training so that young people gain the knowledge needed to sustain their livelihoods.
KENINGAU: To eradicate poverty, the Government continues to enhance the provision of various employment opportunities, especially for the youths in the State.
State Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe said this includes encouraging investors and manufacturers to employ young people in their companies and factories.

He said in addition to improving the skills of young people, it can also help address the level of poverty in the State.
“The Government always provides opportunities for young people, especially from less privileged families, to gain employment because they too deserve the chance to change their lives and their families’ lives,” he said at the Keningau Unity Kaamatan Festival at the Community Hall, here, recently.

“We want today’s youths to have various skills because most of the careers available now prioritise skills,” he said.

Earlier, Organising Chairman Greylydia Gillod said organising the programme indirectly fosters unity among all races regardless of religion.
“This unity is important because it is the foundation in every matter, especially involving mutual benefits,” she said.

Also present were Sabah Development Berhad (SDB) Chairman Frankie Poon and local leaders.
