Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Soft Tennis Association (SSTA) will be sending 13 players to participate in the Malaysia (Closed) Soft Tennis Open and Juniors tournament at the Kelana Jaya Sports Complex, Selangor from June 22-23.

They are to take part in the Under-12 and Under-15 as well as the open categories in the two-day event  held to select players to represent the country at the World Soft Tennis Championship in South Korea on September 1-10 and the World Juniors tournament scheduled in November with the hosts between China or Chinese Taipei yet to be decided by International Soft Tennis Federation (ISTF).

SSTA president Justin Liew, who is also the vice president of Malaysia Soft Tennis Association (MSTA), will be leading the team together with other SSTA officials including KK Chin as the tournament director.

He said SSTA was earlier given the chance to host the event but had to turn down the offer due to poor court conditions at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex.

He is confident that at least one of the boys will reach the semi-final stage while Jedidiah Kwan stands a good chance to reach the last eight in the men’s open category.

The 13 players to represent SSTA are Ayden Ho, Louis Ho, Mason Lo, Abraham Chung, Lucas Wen (boys Under-12); Eloise Voon (girls Under-15); Jayden Jay Ng, Hans Ryan Chong, Kovidh Sharma, Wee Jian Fang (boys Under-15), Jedidiah Kwan (men’s open), Eoudia Lai and Leviance Chong (women’s open).

Meanwhile, Chin said a one-day technical course for teachers and parents who are interested to qualify  as Malaysian National Technical Officer (NTO) will be held during the tournament.

Chin, who is also Asian Soft Tennis Federation’s (ASTF) auditor, added that he will accompany MSTA president Dato Shamshuzaman Sulaiman to attend the ASTF general meeting in South Korea from June 17-20.
