Man jailed for threatening to hurt mum
Zakaria was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to three years or fine of up to RM5,000 or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old man was sentenced to 10 months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here on Tuesday for threatening to injure his mother.

Mohd Zakaria Jaster pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence against Anih Amit, 54, at 8.30pm on May 11, this year, at a house in Kg Darau Laut, Manggatal.

The prosecution informed the court that on the said day Zakaria went berserk and damaged household goods. During the incident, Zakaria threatened his mother and said that he would injure her.

Fear for her safety as well as the family, the mother lodged a police report against Zakaria, who was then arrested by the police.

Zakaria was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to three years or fine of up to RM5,000 or both, on conviction.

During mitigation, Zakaria requested a lenient sentence.

He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

Meanwhile, in a similar case, a mechanic was fined RM1,000 or a month’s jail for threatening to burn his workplace.

Tan Hee Shing, 54, admitted to committing the offence at 12.28pm on April 17, at the company’s office, along Jalan Tuaran, Kolombong, Inanam.

The facts of the case tendered by the prosecution, stated that before the incident, Tan came to the premises in a state of anger and expressed his dissatisfaction with his salary to his employer.

The employer ignored him and left the premises.

Tan then threatened to burn down the company if the employer did not return to see him.

One of the company’s workers, who heard the threat, filed a police report against Tan.

Tan, during mitigation, also requested a lenient sentence.

In the same court, an unemployed man was jailed five months and fined RM800 or one month in jail for theft.

Yaindry Alysius, 29, pleaded guilty to stealing two handphones belonging to The Curry premises at Taman Fortuna, here, on April 29, at 5.33pm.

The court heard from the prosecution that prior to the incident, Yaindry came to the shop and ordered food.

He then stole the two gadgets placed on a table while the restaurant’s workers were busy preparing the food in the kitchen.

Yaindry’s act was captured in the shop’s CCTV and he was also seen leaving the area in a Proton Persona car with a clear plate number.

A police report was later lodged which led to Yaindry’s arrest, the court heard.

Yaindry had committed an offence under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine, on conviction.
