94 jailed for illegal entry, overstaying
They were charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 which provides for a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: Ninety-four people were jailed for entering the State illegally and overstaying in the State.

The 94, comprising Indonesians and Filipinos, admitted separately to the charge against them at the Immigration Temporary Detention Centre in Manggatal, here.

Fifty-two of them were jailed four months each while another 29 were jailed three months each for entering the State without any valid document.

They were charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 which provides for a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, on conviction.

The other 13 were jailed three months for staying in the State after their passports expired.

All the 94 were ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests.

Meanwhile, two Filipinos admitted to two counts of illegal entry and unlawful return after removal.

The two were jailed eight months and two lashes of the cane on the first count of illegal entry and received another eight months’ jail and two strokes of the cane for unlawfully residing in the State after being deported.

The Filipinos were ordered to serve the jail sentences concurrently from the date of their arrests.
