SANDAKAN: An historic tennis match was held to celebrate the Agong’s birthday at the Sandakan Tennis Club on Monday.

Four players with a combined age of 300 were involved in a doubles match with full ITF standard regulations watched by packed Sandakan District Tennis Association (SDTA) members and fellow players.

Sabah Tennis Association president Johnson Koh and his partner Wong Choon Sun with a combined age of 147 came top to win 8-2 against Desmond Chang and Lo Cheng San with a combined total of 153.

The winning trophy was presented by SDTA president Silvester Lawai who congratulated all four players and also all the officials involved in organising the event.

He said the success of the event indicated that the association has great patrons, life members and association members who are willing to contribute money and energy  to ensure the success of the association.

“This is important especially to ensure the continuous support for programmes like the junior coaching clinic and their development programme,” he said.

Meanwhile, the players’ T-shirts were sponsored by Johnson and a dinner was also held after the match sponsored by Desmond, Cheng San and Choon Sun.
