TAWAU: At a recent fig tree planting event opposite Tawau Hills Park, organised by 1StopBorneo Wildlife and led by individuals and Lions Club members from Kolej Vocational School Tawau, saw the participation of over 43 students to plant 100 fig trees donated by the Lions Club.

1StopBorneo Wildlife has been actively involved in planting thousands of fig trees in Sabah, recognising the crucial role these trees play as keystone species, cherished by various wildlife for their nourishment.

The Laran tree species, provided by Lions Club members, was also planted during the event.

Children joined their parents to plant fig trees.

Nur Shafiqah Farahana Kalog, the Reforestation Lead of 1StopBorneo Wildlife, organised the event with local NGO Bora (Bringing Back Our Rare Animals) lending their support by contributing additional figs, alongside Teck Guan Plantation Tawau.

The overarching objective of this endeavour is to establish a wildlife oasis by planting the preferred food sources of diverse animals.

The long-term vision is to mitigate the impact of fragmented reserves, fostering a more interconnected and sustainable ecosystem.
