Wushu squad return with 3 medals

SANDAKAN: The Sabah wushu team finished eleventh with a tally of three medals in the just concluded 13th National Youth Wushu KPM-Himalaya Sports Tournament held in Negeri Sembilan.

Fifteen teams competed in the five-day tournament that was graced by The Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.

Sabah Wushu Association president Dato’ Chin Kim Hiung, who also accompanied the 22-member Sabah team together with five coaches to the tournament, said he was proud of the Sabah exponents’ performances.

Chin, who is also Wushu Federation of Malaysia deputy president, thanked Sabah Wushu Association secretary cum team manager Lee Hon Yu.

He also congratulated organisers Persekutuan Wushu, Tarian Singa dan Naga Negeri Sembilan for successfully hosting the event.

According to Chin, the Sabah medallists were Dexter Tan Khai Qi – gold in the Male’s 14-years-old 48kg category, Jesselton Hailey Hilary – silver in the Male’s 17-years-old 48kg category, and Avey Avylla Laban – bronze - 4th place in the Female’s Qiangshu Group A category.

The Melaka team finished top of the table with a total medal haul of 29 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals with Kuala Lumpur in second place with 13 golds, 9 silvers and 7 bronzes followed by Johor with 8 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze medals.
