Van driver injured in Ranau crash

Injured van driver was rescued and sent to the hospital.
RANAU: A van driver was injured after being trapped in the driver’s seat, while seven passengers were unharmed in an accident involving a van and a trailer at Jalan Kinabalu Park, Kundasang, on Friday.
The injured 41-year-old male driver was subsequently transported to Ranau Hospital via ambulance for further treatment.

Head of Ranau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), Assistant Fire Superintendent, Ridwan Mohd Taib, said he received a call regarding the incident at 2.23pm and rushed a team of firemen led by Operations Commander PBK II Wasli Saupin to the scene.
According to him, the accident occurred when a trailer carrying a cargo of concrete pillars collided with a van.
“There were nine victims in total, including eight people in the van and a 63-year-old trailer driver.
“The trapped van driver was rescued by the fire fighters using Hydraulic Power Unit equipment,” he said.

According to Ridwan, all seven female passengers who were in the van and the lorry driver were left unscathed.
“The injured victim was sent to Ranau Hospital using the KKM Ambulance for further treatment.

The operation ended at 3:15 pm after ensuring there was no further danger, he said.
