Pakatan Harapan-Gabungan Rakyat Sabah cooperation to continue: Anwar
Anwar said defending and maintaining political stability in the nation are needed to ensure the country is progressing towards excellence and developing accordingly.
PENAMPANG: Pakatan Harapan (PH) including Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) will remain loyal and work with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the next State election.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who pledged this, said having such cooperation would ensure political stability at State and Federal level.

Anwar who is also National PH Chairman said GRS under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor worked well with the Madani government.

“I told the Chief Minister and GRS that we, including myself representing PKR and PH, will remain loyal and cooperate with GRS under Hajiji’s leadership.

“This will make it easier for us to maintain political stability in Sabah and at the Federal level because our cooperation at the central government is very good whether PH, Umno, Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and GRS.

“All are main parties representing all the major races, ethnic groups, tribes and religions, and have helped to guarantee political stability in the nation and all matters,” he said.

He assured that the Madani government would protect and defend the rights of all races, ethnic groups and religions in the country as no one has the right to question them.

Anwar said defending and maintaining political stability in the nation are needed to ensure the country is progressing towards excellence and developing accordingly.

“Our country has fallen behind in many fields because of the endless political wrangling where there were four Prime Ministers in five years, and I hope this PM (Anwar) stays until the (coming) election.

“The effect was on the people, what did we argue about? We argued about race, culture, religion and State’s interest and the people were marginalised.

“Now is not the time to brag and be arrogant because now Malaysia is being honoured whereas the image of our country is increasingly enhanced, and we are getting respect from other countries.

“As a result, we received big investors not only from America and Germany. Malaysia is the main focus of German investment because our politics are stable, our policy is clear and energy transition is clear as well as our digital transformation which is part of the Madani economy framework,” he said.

Anwar reiterated that the Madani government would probe any leader from State or Federal found to abuse their power to enrich themselves and famililies.

He said Madani government is focused on solving main problems the people are facing, i.e. water, electricity, roads, eradicate poverty and addressing education issues like giving school books, among others.

“Don’t worry about those people who make noise because our priority and duty is the people’s needs, defend their fate and tackle their problems.

“These are the duties of the Federal and State governments. We agree and are firm to resolve them (problems/issues),” he said.

On resolving the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) issues, he  said Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, who is more senior, had followed up on the claims (of Sabah rights in MA63) for years.

“In fact, some people asked why I handed Bintulu Port back to Sarawak. It is because of the MA63 where it stated about state ports (State rights) which I believe it will cooperate with Federal and this will render mutual benefits from using the port,” he said.

He said he would have no problem doing the same to Sabah to fulfil what has been promised in MA63 for the State.

“As soon as the Sabah Government is ready, all matters whether related to port or others things like we hand over to Electricity Board (to Sabah), I have no problem at all and we will fulfil what has been promised in MA63.

Anwar said there are leaders who had no power now but noisily ask for many things to be done when in fact they didn’t do much when they had the power to do so including alleging the Federal Government not doing anything, which is untrue.

He said such sentiment must be stopped as it is not helpful and could invite other kind of sentiments in other states.

He said he informed Hajiji to speed up the tender process for Pan Borneo highway projects and give to those (contractors) who are qualified.

“I emphasise the need to expedite the tender process and do not force or insist to give to those who are not qualified because it can affect the completion of the project,” he said, adding that the Pan Borneo highway roads in Sarawak are almost completed.
