Go after power thieves in Sandakan, SESB told
Calvin said cases of electricity theft are rampant in village land areas that have yet to be gazetted.
SANDAKAN: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) was urged to conduct regular monitoring of electricity theft in squatter areas in this district.

Elopura Assemblyman, Calvin Chong said cases of electricity theft are rampant in village land areas that have yet to be gazetted.

“Theft cases often occur in village land areas that have not been gazetted because SESB is hindered from directly installing meters in those areas.

“This electricity theft not only affects paying SESB customers but also causes deaths of villagers who make illegal connections,” he said.

Calvin said this during a brief meeting with the SESB Sandakan Zone Manager Siti Jamilah Alias to discuss electricity issues in Sandakan.

During the discussion, Calvin also requested the SESB team to be more vigilant about power supply disruptions in Sandakan which take hours to restore.

“Power supply disruptions often occur in Sandakan, for example, in housing areas like Bandar Indah, Taman Sejati, Taman Mutiara, Sri Taman and others.”

“During this prolonged hot season, users will certainly not be able to bear the heat if it takes a long time for the electricity supply to be restored.

“Not only that, users, especially traders, are affected in carrying out their daily activities,” he added.

Meanwhile, SESB said that they would try their best to improve their services to consumers in Sandakan.
