Preserve Kaamatan tradition, Abidin tells new generation

RANAU: The tradition of Kaamatan needs to be preserved by the new generation as it is the only celebration for the KDMR community, said Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Abidin Madingkir.

“For the KDMR community, there is no other festival that is as significant. Therefore, it needs to be maintained so that this community can also survive the changing times.

“Kaamatan is important because it is also a celebration that unites our society regardless of political, status or religious background. The unity of the village is evident when Kaamatan is celebrated,” he said.

According to Abidin, the festival transcends all boundaries of differences among the community, and in accordance with the Kaamatan theme for the year, this festival actually transcends the aspect of food security.

“This is very important because it goes hand in hand with the government’s commitment to ensure that the food supply is always sufficient,” he said.

“It also reminds the farmers to always try to increase the yield not only for rice but any type of agriculture.

“Food security also reminds farmers to be prepared to face any challenges.”

He said that is why the government re-established the Sabah Padi and Rice Board to ensure food security is always at an adequate level.

Abidin, who is also Paginatan Assemblyman, said this while officiating the Hari Raya Celebration and the Kaamatan Festival 2024 Kampung Matan and Kituntul Lama, here, recently.

Also present were Community Development Leader (PPM) Paginatan Hishamudin Harun, OKK District Head Muhasip Hj Rauman, Special Officer to Datuk Abidin Madingkir Juis Konsuling, CDO Jipili Sigal, Mukim Developers, Village Heads, JKKK Chairmen and others.
