Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Oil, Gas and Energy Conference and Exhibition (SOGCE) is set to make an impact as it gears up for its 11th edition at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on June 27-28.

Organised by the award-winning Midas Events Management (MEM), this premier event promises to be a game-changer for the oil, gas and energy industry in the region.

Under the theme “Accelerating and Humanising Energy Transition and Digital Transformation in the Oil, Gas and Energy Industry,” SOGCE 2024 brings together 42 esteemed speakers and eight moderators from both local and international organisations.

Prominent figures such as Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management at Petronas, Datuk Bacho Pilong, and Country Chair of Shell Malaysia, Siti Sulaiman, will grace the event with their insights and expertise.

“SOGCE serves as a comprehensive platform, fostering discussions on crucial industry matters and exploring opportunities within the Sabah region,” Organising Chairperson of SOGCE and Project Director of MEM Dolly Jimayol told a media conference, here, Tuesday.

“Our vision is to position Sabah as a leading hub for oil and gas in the Asia-Pacific region.

“Sabah Oil and Gas Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (SOGDC) is our collaboration partner and its Managing Director cum Chief Executive Officer Datuk Harun Ismail will be delivering his keynote address on day two,” she said.

“SOGDC, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship, has been our supporting organisation since the inception of SOGCE in 2012,” she added.

She said this year’s edition is set to be the largest yet with 98 exhibiting companies occupying 135 booths across 3,451 square meters of exhibition space – a 38 per cent increase compared to the previous year.

“Notably, 25 of these exhibitors are oil and gas companies from Sabah and Labuan, marking an 85 per cent increase and reflecting a growing interest in the industry,” she said.

Major exhibitors include industry giants such as Petronas, Shell Malaysia, EPOMS and Asian Supply Base, while sponsors are led by Sabah Energy Corporation, Asian Supply Base, Shell Malaysia, PTTEP, Petra Energy and Hibiscus Petroleum, among others.

She said SOGCE 2024 has garnered strong support from 14 prominent organisations, including the Malaysian Oil, Gas and Energy Services Council, Sabah Oil and Gas Service Council, Malaysian Investment Development Authority, Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation and the Energy Industries Council – APAC.

The event is expected to attract over 400 conference delegates from various countries, including Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, China, Brunei, Thailand, Denmark and Malaysia, further solidifying its international appeal.

“SOGCE serves not only as a focal point for its industry but also as a key economic catalyst for the Sabah region,” she said.

“Projections suggest that receipts from outstation guests alone will surpass RM2 million, underscoring the event’s substantial contribution to the local economy.”

In addition to its core programmes, SOGCE 2024 will feature initiatives tailored for young professionals and secondary school students, organised in collaboration with the Society of Petroleum Engineers - Kuala Lumpur Section.

The event also includes the SOGCE Networking Golf, hosted by Midas Events Management and the Malaysian Oil, Gas and Energy Services Council, with proceeds benefiting charitable organisations such as Bukit Harapan and The Sabah Society for the Blind.

State Minister of Finance Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun has been invited as the Guest of Honour.

“Together, let’s make Sabah a beacon of innovation and progress in the oil and gas industry,” Jimayol said, extending an invitation to all industry stakeholders to experience and seize the opportunities that SOGCE 2024 presents.
