KENINGAU: The Water Department will address the issue of frequent pipe leakages in this district.
Assistant Public Works Minister Datuk Robert Tawik @ Nordin said as short term measure the department would immediately repair any leaks that occur.

He said the department would replace the problematic pipe sections through quotations with an estimated length of 100 to 400 metres.
However, he said, it depends on the size of the pipe.
The Bingkor Assemblyman said, for long term measure, the department would implement the Non-Revenue Water (NRW) programme for Keningau, which could not be implemented under the 12th Malaysia Plan.
“We will propose for this to be given priority in the 13th Malaysia Plan,” he said when asked about the pipe leakages which the residents claimed to be frequently happening.

He said the NRW programme includes replacing old and outdated pipes.
Some 200 Kg Padang residents here had on Saturday complained of not having clean water supply for four days.

Resident Hamdzah Amin said it is possible that the water supply to the village was disrupted due to a burst in the main pipe.
He said during the period without clean water supply, some residents obtained water from their family members who used tube wells.
“Luckily, I dug a tube well back in 2022 and this is where some residents get water if the water supply from the department is disrupted,” he said.
